Light

When we were at the Catholic sanctuary for their Festival of Lights a couple weeks ago there was a sign about light making a biblical reference.

Being that I am not familiar with the bible it seemed like just a nice sign or reminder about the return of the sun to me.

After further thought about the light this time of year I looked into it. In the Bible it says in Matt. 5:14-16: “Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”

To me it seems like we all need to let our own inner light shine and fulfill our own purpose. When you live your authentic life then you are also able to cast that light onto others and inspire them.

The nights will be growing shorter and the days growing longer now and that has nothing to do with Jesus. From the dark womb of the night, the light is born.

Any form of spirituality is a pathway to light whether you are pagan or Christian or Buddhist or whatever. Some may say that unless you are believing and honoring Christ then you are not living in the “light.” To me this eternal light is everywhere for everyone and not exclusive.

If you are living in the dark it may be a dark period of time or a cocoon phase from which you will emerge fresh and renewed this does not apply to not following Christ and thus living in the dark and being ignorant.

“Christians, under God, are to enlighten the world” it is said but really the enlightening is often done by the ones who are supposed to become enlightened according to the Christians.

I read in  a Christian article that the author believed the only people in the world able to bring enlightenment are Christians. Everyone and everything has a shadow and that shadow is not always a bad thing is it? We can’t all be shining all the time and there is a need for us, like the earth to dwell in some shadowed periods.

If Christians are the only ones who are able to enlighten the world then I think we are are in trouble. I am not buying that. There is so much light that is cast onto others by those who are living a wonderful life and not dedicated to Jesus. There are so many wonderful people who have peace and love for others and do great things regardless of their religious beliefs.

I hope that everyone is able to provide some illumination to the world in a small way or big way .As the sun’s light returns and brings warmth and growth to the earth may it also bring it to your heart. You are a light in the world.
